When to issue a receipt
Give a receipt after payment is received. Include the seller and customer, transaction date, items or services, taxes, total paid, payment method or reference, and any remaining balance.
Receipt versus invoice
An invoice asks the customer to pay. A receipt confirms payment. If a customer makes a partial payment, the receipt can show both the amount paid and the balance still outstanding.
