Describe services so customers understand the bill
Identify the service, date or billing period, quantity of hours or visits, and agreed rate. For a project fee, separate meaningful phases or deliverables when that helps the customer review the work.
Billing expenses and materials
Put reimbursable expenses or materials on separate lines. Keep receipts and supporting records in your own files, and describe any markup, handling charge, or tax consistently with the customer agreement.
Before sending a service invoice
Check the customer name, invoice number, issue date, due date, arithmetic, payment instructions, and purchase-order or job reference. Save a final PDF with your business records.
